BOYS' VOLLEYBALL: A NEW FAVORITE IN TOWN GRANADA HILLS ROUTS DEFENDING CITY SECTION CHAMP CHATSWORTH G.H. 3, CHATSWORTH 0.

of Woodland Hills in the league final, Granada Hills should be the top seed when the City Section playoffs commence in three weeks.

``That's what we went into this week thinking about,'' said Phillip Puathasnanon, who had 20 kills, six digs and four blocks for Granada Hills. ``Win the league championship and get the top seed. That's what this whole week was about.''

Now the attention turns to the playoffs. The Highlanders, who have two more matches left, haven't won the City title since 1997. They spent the past four years watching Taft and Chatsworth win it all, so there is incentive to keep their roll going through the postseason.

``We feel like this can be our year,'' said Kris Manansala, who had 17 kills and 13 digs. ``If we play to our abilities, we can definitely do it.''

If things go as well as they did Thursday, only an upset will prevent the Highlanders from winning the championship. After struggling to beat Chatsworth in five games in their last meeting, they focused on putting together a crisp practice Wednesday, then taking that intensity onto the floor against the Chancellors.

``The last time we played them we didn't practice very well the day before,'' Puathasnanon said. ``So we made sure we didn't let that happen again this time. After we beat Taft on Tuesday, we put that behind us as quickly as possible, then started thinking about Chatsworth. We were ready to play today.''
