BOYS' TENNIS NOTEBOOK: EVEN IN NEW DIVISION, VIEWPOINT STILL ON TOP.

It took the Viewpoint of Calabasas boys' tennis team sixweeks to ascend to the top spot in the Southern Section Div. IV rankings.

With their come-from-behind victory Tuesday at Crossroads of Santa Monica Santa Monica (săn`tə mŏn`ĭkə), city (1990 pop. 86,905), Los Angeles co., S Calif., on Santa Monica Bay; inc. 1886. Tourism and retailing are important, and the city has motion-picture, biotechnology, and software industries. , the Patriots demonstrated they intend on staying there.

After winning three consecutive Div.V titles, Viewpoint (9-2) was moved to Div. IV as part of an offseason realignment re·a·lign

 by Southern Section officials.

The upgrade left the Patriots off the Div. IV coaches' radar more than a month into the season, before they debuted at No.2 twoweeks ago and took over the No. 1 ranking last week.

Viewpoint's 77-72 victory over Crossroads -- ranked No.3 in Div. III -- after the teams played to a 9-9 result was a strong indication the Patriots have another title run in them.

"They really went all out to do whatever they could to help the team win," Viewpoint coach Asif Azhar said. "When you have the No. 1 ranking, you don't just sit down and say 'that's nice.' There is a charge and a responsibility to show that you deserve it.

"You can't be given the ranking and not make it mean something. The team knew (Crossroads) was a really important match and we wanted to see what we could do."

Viewpoint's only losses were an 11-7 setback setback

The addition of Jake JAKE Jointly Administered Knowledge Environment  Baughman, who moved from San Francisco San Francisco (săn frănsĭs`kō), city (1990 pop. 723,959), coextensive with San Francisco co., W Calif., on the tip of a peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, which are connected by the strait known as the Golden , has provided a strong complement to Troy List and Eric Leidersdorf in the Patriots' singles lineup A criminal investigation technique in which the police arrange a number of individuals in a row before a witness to a crime and ask the witness to identify which, if any, of the individuals committed the crime. .

But the success of doubles teams Brandon Mischel/Jordan Parzick and Taylor Lesser/Jack Sanford could be the most important factor in Viewpoint's quest to become only the third area team to win four division titles in a row.

Azhar hopes that the experience of competing against a quality nonleague schedule will offset Viewpoint playing the remainder of its matches against Liberty League competition and a nonleague contest against Oak Park, none of which are ranked opponents.

Now our focus in practice will be to stay at a high level and not fall into bad habits bad habit Unhealthy habit Clinical medicine A patterned behavior regarded as detrimental to physical or mental health, which is often linked to a lack of self-control. Co-ed collaboration: The fact that Montclair Prep of Panorama City is undefeated in Alpha League play isn't a surprise.

What is impressive about Montclair Prep's success this time around is that coach Ken Erenberg is winning with a lineup of fiveboys and four girls.

Seniors Bennett Cross and Corey Kesluk are the remaining holdovers from Montclair Prep's last Alpha championship team in 2004. What makes their success so impressive this season is they're winning in doubles with female partners.

Kesluk, whose brother Sean plays at Harvard-Westlake of Studio City, has gone undefeated with sophomore Lily lily, common name for the Liliaceae, a plant family numbering several thousand species of as many as 300 genera, widely distributed over the earth and particularly abundant in warm temperate and tropical regions.  Popkin.

Juniors Erik Becker and Sam Sobo, All-Olympic honorees last season, have provided depth for the Mounties.
