of North Hollywood's Jrue Holiday took his time walking off the court at halftime of Saturday's Southern Section boys' basketball championship game and peered up at the scoreboard, seemingly in disbelief after realizing his team was trailing La Canada by five points. There was no hiding the look of disappointment on his face.

He joined his teammates in the locker room minutes later, but not before passing by Vikings coach Terry Kelly and the rest of his staff, who were standing in the corridor of the Honda Center Current arenas in the National Hockey League

"Coach, I'm not going to let us lose," Holiday said before the second half started.

The 6-foot-4 junior made good on his word, scoring eight of his 38 points in a four-minute overtime to guide the Vikings to a 61-57 victory in the Div. The 6-7 senior missed an 8-foot jumper with four seconds remaining in the fourth quarter for the fourth-seeded Spartans (27-3), and the game went into overtime tied at 51-51 after the Vikings' Dallas Rutherford Rutherford (rŭth`ərfərd), borough (1990 pop. 17,790), Bergen co., NE N.J., a residential suburb of the New York City–N New Jersey metropolitan area; inc. 1881. "Adam turned in one of the greatest performances in school history," La Canada coach Tom Hofman said.

It was good, but not good enough, particularly when Holiday, who also had nine rebounds and seven steals, is at his best.

Rutherford opened up overtime with a layup, and Holiday followed with a steal and two-handed dunk to give Campbell Hall a 55-51 lead with 2:53 left.

Seconds later, Holiday stepped in the passing lane and went the length of the court for a left-handed dunk. He added a short jumper to give the Vikings a 59-57 lead with 55 seconds left and sealed the victory with a pair of free throws with 3.3 seconds remaining.

"This is the finals, we knew this game wasn't going to be easy," Holiday said.

And surprisingly enough, it had a two-point advantage heading into the fourth quarter.

"We were hyped for this game," La Canada senior Darren Ho said. "We gave 110 percent. He went all out."

Holiday's steal and layup at the 7:26 mark of the fourth quarter gave Campbell Hall a 45-43 lead, its first since there was 2:12 left in the first quarter.

Holiday's brother, Justin Holiday, added a basket to extend the lead to four points with 5:01 left in the final quarter.

Malik kept the Spartans scoring six points over a two-minute stretch, and a pair of Ross Grandolph free throws tied the score at 51-51 with 22 seconds left.

"We knew Malik was talented, but his inside and outside game is great," Kelly said. "He carried them."

Justin Holiday finished with 10points. Keegan Hornbuckle added seven points and six rebounds for the Vikings.

For the Spartans, Baldwin finished with eight points, Ho had seven and Christian Nitu had five.
