Byline: Matthew Kredell Staff Writer

Three weeks ago, the Canyon boys' soccer team appeared on the road to missing the playoffs. Now the Cowboys cowboys, in American history.

Everyone knew Canyon had the talent to compete. But this turnaround Turnaround

A situation where a company that has had poor performance for an extended period of time experiences a positive reversal.

is shocking in the way the Cowboys have been are dominating good teams.

Canyon won its first game over first-place Hart in four years Friday by a score of 6-1, then followed it Tuesday with a 4-1 victory over first-place Saugus.

Canyon had lost 3-0 to Hart earlier in the week.

Jared White said. ``It definitely gave us an advantage.''

With five wins in its past six games, Canyon improved to 9-3-4, 4-2-1 - the same league record as Saugus. Hart is 3-2-2.

Saugus and Hart have to play each other, and Canyon plays the bottom half of the league - Burroughs, Burbank and Valencia.

``I had some nervousness about the season after that loss,'' coach Mark Loftus said. ``There was a question whether the guys were going to pull together as a team or fall apart and start pointing fingers.''

Those questions have been answered.

--Sudden scorer: Matt McManus made a name for himself as a hard-nosed defender in the Foothill League.

It took time for him to get used to playing forward, but McManus seems to be finding his groove. He has scored four of his eight goals in the past two games, the big victories over Hart and Saugus.

``It was nerve-racking to play forward at first because there is a lot of pressure to score,'' said McManus, who has committed to play at San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850.
