BOYS' SOCCER NOTEBOOK: FIRST PLACE STILL TO BE DECIDED.Byline: Matthew Kredell Staff Writer Playoffs are set in the Golden League heading into Tuesday's games. Quartz Hill (7-0-1), Highland (6-2) and Lancaster (3-3-2) are in. The only question is who will be first, and that's easy to answer. Quartz Hill, undefeated on the season, needs to tie or win one of its final two games or have Highland tie or lose to clinch Clinch, river, c.300 mi (480 km) long, formed by the junction of two forks in SW Va., and flowing generally SW across E Tenn. to the Tennessee River at Kingston. the league title. --Tie is major upset: Nothing in boys' soccer this season has been as shocking as Quartz Hill going from 11-1 against Littlerock earlier this season to 0-0 with the Lobos last Wednesday. Career said the day after the tie. ``I felt we played really well, it's just the finish wasn't there. Whoever was at the game knew we dominated. Their defense came up with some incredible saves.'' Goalkeeper Eric Cordova Cordova, Spain: see Córdoba. didn't play for the Lobos in the first game against Quartz Hill because of injury. And he won't play in any future games this season after pulling a muscle in his leg the game after Quartz Hill. But for one game, he was spectacular, along with Littlerock defenders who made some diving stops in front of the net. ``We tried to bunch up Verb 1. bunch up - form into a bunch; "The frightened children bunched together in the corner of the classroom" bunch, bunch together cluster, constellate, flock, clump - come together as in a cluster or flock; "The poets constellate in this town every and keep everybody marked and tight,'' Cordova said. ``We were playing conservative because, the way Quartz Hill plays, if you move up and spread out defensively, they really attack inside.'' Quartz Hill (22-0-1) didn't go into the game expecting such a battle. ``I think we all had the mind-frame that it wasn't going to be that tough a challenge.'' McClung said. ``Of course, we are going to have that mentality men·tal·i·ty n. The sum of a person's intellectual capabilities or endowment. because last time we beat them 11-1. I mean, come on.'' But Littlerock didn't worry about the last game. The Lobos somehow came in confident against a team that wins by an average of four goals. ``More than anything, we were playing for respect,'' Littlerock coach Eric Stanford said. ``We talked about it before the game. We had nothing to lose. Nobody was uptight. They were loose, played together and did a great job.'' Quartz Hill was shown to be beatable, but its goals are intact. ``Our perfect season, big deal, we don't get that,'' McClung said. ``Our goal is to get a Southern Section championship. I think the tie could inspire us.'' Matalon was proud his team kept its undefeated record, even though it is no longer untied. ``They hate to lose,'' Matalon said. ``They could have lost that game against Littlerock. Great teams don't lose even when they don't play well. Any team is going to have to come with their 'A' game to beat us, that's the bottom line.''
