LONG BEACH - With only three seniors on this year's roster, the Highland of Palmdale boys' soccer team fully expects to be back in the Southern Section Division I quarterfinals this time next season. And now the Bulldogs have all the motivation they ever could need.

``We hope to do the same thing next year. I think this was a good learning experience for us.''

From the opening whistle, the Bulldogs (14-3-7) were overmatched against Wilson (24-0-5), which entered the game ranked No. 12 in the country by Student Sports magazine. Senior midfielder

The Bruins also did a superb job containing Highland's leading scorer, junior forward Mauricio Harrie, who entered the game with 26 goals this season. Harrie was shadowed from start to finish by Jared Deramus-Brown and had only a few quality scoring chances in the early going.

Highland scored with one minute left on a shot by junior midfielder Chris Calderon, but Wilson even answered that as Morgan Boswell knocked in the Bruins' fifth goal in the 80th minute.

``Five-one is not how we wanted to go out,'' Calderon said. ``That score shouldn't have been that bad.''
