BOYS' SOCCER: CONFUSION REIGNS IN VICTORY FOR HART CANYON GOAL WAVED OFF AS COACH, REFEREE ARGUE HART 2, CANYON 1.

Byline: Ross Siler Staff Writer

SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987.  by confusion long before the Canyon and Hart boys' teams took the field Tuesday afternoon. But the final 10 minutes of the Indians' 2-1 victory might have taken the absurdity to a new extreme.

With Hart of Newhall clinging to a one-goal lead late - and Canyon's chances of claiming the league title slipping away in the drizzle - the visiting Cowboys cowboys, in American history.

Jesse Martinez came out to retrieve it.

The simple play soon turned complicated, though, as Canyon's James Wolfe caught up to Martinez out of the net. The goalkeeper tried to play the ball with his feet, but Wolfe stole it from him and slotted a shot into the net to forge an apparent tie.

So Wolfe's goal was disallowed. The Cowboys were awarded an indirect free kick 6 yards from the box that they couldn't convert. And Hart was able to escape with its second victory this season over first-place Canyon.

his disappointment. Getz added that he planned to bring up the incident at a league coaches' meeting Monday.

``You know what I learned from this game?'' Getz said. ``If there's ever a fast break going, I'm going to go on the field. What are you going to do? You're not going to stop the game because of it?

``I think what happened was a poor demonstration of self control. Every single person watching this game was going, `What was that?' Maybe we would have scored or maybe we wouldn't have, but that's not right.''

The game also did little to clear up the league's championship picture. Canyon (13-3-1, 6-2-1) still can claim the title with a victory Thursday at home against Burroughs of Burbank. But the Cowboys also lost both their meetings this season with Hart (13-3-7, 5-2-2).

The Indians can share the league title with Canyon if the Cowboys tie and they defeat Burbank.

On Tuesday, Hart got goals from sophomore Ismael Zamora and junior Devin Del Do in the first 15 minutes and held on for the much-needed victory.
