Player of the Year

NICK DELIO

Saugus, Jr.

He didn't say much, which at first seemed to be due mostly to his quiet nature. Later, he revealed what really was on his mind. After 53 straight holes without a bogey Bogey

, Saugus High junior golfer Nick Delio had finally missed a put on the 10th hole of the Southern Section Individual Championship at Canyon Country Club in Palm Springs. Of course he still shot an even-par 72 to advance to the CIF/SCGA championships the following week.

He was quiet again after his round at the SCGA SCGA Southern California Golf Association
SCGA Software Carrier Group Alarm
Members Course in Murrieta. Delio had hit an incredible 18 greens but finished with a 1-over 73 after struggling with his putting. It was only his second round over par since April.

It was this focus and uncompromising competitiveness that took Delio from one of the best during the regular season to the best in the area during the postseason. He didn't settle for even-par rounds or three-putts. After finishing six strokes back of Valencia's Louis Amira for Foothill League MVP (Multimedia Video Processor) A high-speed DSP chip from Texas Instruments, introduced in 1994. Officially introduced as the TMS320C80, it combines RISC technology with the functionality of four DSPs on one chip. , Delio took his game to another level in the playoffs.

He was medalist at the Southern Section Northern Division individual qualifying tournament at The Alisal River Course in Solvang with a 5-under 67. During the last six weeks of the season, he shot rounds of 70, 68, 68, 69, 73, 68, 67, 72 and 73 That's a run that would make any golfer proud. Coach of the Year

BOB MISKO

Royal

It was a bet Bob Misko hoped he'd lose. At the end of last season, he told his team that if it finished ahead of Agoura in the Marmonte League The Marmonte League is a high school sports league primarily made up of schools from Ventura County. Misko wasn't even aiming to take on perennial league power Westlake. The Highlanders had never even finished second in the Marmonte League. Set achievable goals, right?

Misko had to pay up, alright. He's just lucky the team didn't make him do more than jump in the lake. Royal didn't just finish ahead of Agoura. The Highlanders set two school records, won the Marmonte League championship and the Southern Section Central Coast Division team title.True to his word, Misko took the plunge.

``It's not exactly a lake,'' he joked. ``It's only a few feet deep and it's pretty muddy. But I still dove in. I made that one count.''

Scher is still getting used to this golf thing. Up until a few years ago, the only thing he was swinging was a baseball bat. But in that short time, he's become one of the best golfers in the area.

JASONG KANG

Hart, Sr.

The UCLA-bound Kang was expected to challenge Delio and Amira for Foothill League MVP honors. Instead, he focused on leading his team to its fourth-straight league title. In addition to leading Hart of Newhall to the team Northern Division title, Kang was one of only six players to finish under par at the Southern Section team finals.

MATT HOFFENBERG

Royal, Jr.

Returned after a two-year break and hardly missed a beat. Hoffenberg was Royal of Simi Valley's steadiest player this year. His 6-under 66 earned him the individual title and led the Highlanders to the Central Coast Divisonal Championship. Hoffenberg was the only player to break par at the tournament.
