BOYS' GOLF: CS BAKERSFIELD GETS TOP COC GOLF RECRUIT.

Jacob Curtier, the 2001 Golden League golf champion and No. 1 player for College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation. , has orally agreed to play for Cal State Bakersfield next season, according to according to

Curtier, a player Peterson has called one of the most talented golfers to come through the Canyons program, is in his final year with the Cougars.

``He's doing well now,'' Peterson said. ``At least as well as last year.''

Curtier and former Highland High standout Lawrence Jarvey were COC's High Desert tandem (Tandem Computers Inc., Cupertino, CA) A former major manufacturer of fault-tolerant computers founded in 1974 by James Treybig and provider of the early 21st century technology for HP's enterprise computing strategy.  in 2004, when the Cougars advanced to postseason and placed third in the state tournament.

Curtier tied for 10th in the 2004 state tournament, shooting 74-72-146. he teams with returning COC See chip on chip.  state top-10 finishers Jon Minkoff (74-68-142) and Danny Bae (72-71-143) to make the Cougars contenders for another state berth this year.

Curtier shot 76, then 74 in Canyons' first two Western State Conference tournaments this season before struggling with a 90 at Tierra Rejada, where his teammates stepped up to give the Cougars a win on Moorpark's home course.

``Jacob is still our leader, still our No. 1 guy,'' said Peterson, who has coached the Cougars to three state titles.
