BOYS' BASKETBALL PREVIEW EAGLES SET TO FLY HIGH LANCASTER RICH WITH TALENT.

Byline: Gideon Rubin Staff Writer

QUARTZ HILL - Lancaster High was within a hanging chad Noun 1. hanging chad - a chad that is incompletely removed and hanging by one corner
chad - a small piece of paper that is supposed to be removed when a hole is punched in a card or paper tape
of winning last season's Golden League title when Quartz Hill's Tony Williams' buzzer-beater in a regular-season finale for both teams cost the Eagles the crown.

The Eagles, who return 10 seniors, are heavy favorites to win the league this time around and Lancaster coach Travis Brown Travis Brown is a common name shared by multiple people. Some of the more notable Travis Browns include:
  • Travis Brown (football) (b 1977) An American football quarterback playing for the Indianapolis Colts.
 knows it.

``That's the way we feel,'' Brown said of his team's front-runner status. ``We're expecting a lot after last year's disappointment.''

Brown joked that with his team's tremendous depth, the Eagles could field two varsity teams. A deep bench will be important for the fast-break-oriented Eagles, but Brown acknowledged that several players are likely to be disappointed because there might not be enough minutes.

Lancaster's greatest overall team strength is its ability to score, but Brown said his team at times lacks defensive intensity, a problem that could go unnoticed in the regular season but hurt the Eagles' hopes of advancing into the playoffs' later rounds.

Lancaster is led by three returning seniors: first-team All-Golden League Teddy Myers and Aaron James Aaron James (born October 5 1952, in New Orleans, Louisiana) is an American former professional basketball player in the NBA. He spent his entire five-year NBA career with the New Orleans Jazz.

James, a 6'8" small forward, averaged 10.8 points and 4.
, and second-team all-league Anthony Gamboa.

Myers, a 5-foot-9 point guard, brings maturity and floor leadership that is crucial if the Eagles are to reach their potential. James, a 6-3 forward, has a nice touch from outside and, with his long arms, is an effective shot blocker. Gamboa, a 6-0 shooting guard The Shooting guard (SG), also known as the two or off guard,[1] is one of five traditional positions on a basketball team. Players of the position are often shorter, leaner, and quicker than forwards. , is dangerous from outside and penetrates defenses well.

The Eagles are built around this trio and Brown said the other two spots will depend on the opponent.

Juniors Mike Webb Mike Webb may refer to:
  • Mike Webb (pastor) - a musician and young talent from Adelaide who appeared on Hey Hey it's Saturday in the 70's turned church pastor
, Steve Thornton and Charles Jones Charles, Charlie, or Chuck Jones may refer to:
  • Bumpus Jones, a 19th century baseball pitcher
  • Charles Colcock Jones (1804-1863), Presbyterian clergyman, planter, and missionary to slaves
are expected to figure prominently in the mix.

Webb (5-11) plays both guard positions and is a smooth shooter. Thornton, a 6-4 forward/center, gives the Eagles a solid defensive presence, and the 6-1, 185-pound Jones is strong and fast.

The Eagles have an abundance of size. Seniors Michael Wright (6-4) and Andrew Golden Andrew Golden (born May 25, 1986) was, at age 11, a shooter in the March 24, 1998 Jonesboro, Arkansas school shooting.

Ironically those who knew the two youths before do not remember them as being very close.
(6-4) both can play center and shoot from the perimeter. Loren Ross-Edwards, a 6-4, 225-pound senior, is an enforcer-type player.

Forward Encarnacion De La Torre La Torre is a municipality located in the province of Ávila, Castile and León, Spain. According to the 2004 census (INE), the municipality has a population of 357 inhabitants.  and guards Trevor Marley and Ryan Jefferson (all seniors) also will be counted on to contribute.
