might be one of the best kept secrets in the area, but he won't be considered an afterthought on the basketball landscape for much longer, especially if he continues to produce like he has during the postseason.

V regional playoffs against host Immanuel of Reedley (25-8).

"Anthony has been a nice surprise," Renaissance Academy coach Sid Cooke said. "He has great upside and it will be interesting to see how he develops, because he has a chance to be very good."

Stover transferred to Renaissance Academy from Nia Charter in Altadena as a freshman and initially played on the Wildcats' junior varsity team For the American rock band, see .

Having experienced players surrounding Stover has allowed him to come in and contribute, essentially developing at his own pace.

There's been no pressure, and his numbers are a reflection of that.

"His game on the offensive end grows daily," Cooke said. "Most importantly, now we have a guy back there to protect our basket and block shots, which means we can gamble out on top more often.

"He's not done growing, not by any stretch. This kid could end up being scary by the time he's a senior."

: DJ Gay and Poly of Sun Valley have faced plenty of good teams this season, but perhaps none as talented as Centennial of Corona (29-4), tonight's opponent in a Southern California Div. I regional playoff opener at home.

"Our schedule has been challenging, and I made sure that it was so we'd be prepared for games like this one," Poly coach Brad Katz said. "Nothing they do is going to shock us. We don't think we're in over our heads. This is the state playoffs. We're here for a reason."

If the Parrots (23-5) are going to defeat the Huskies -- the defending Southern Section Div.II-A champions -- and advance to Thursday's second round against the Pasadena and Clovis West winner, Gay will have to be at his best.

The 6-foot point guard, who has committed to San Diego State, led the City Section in scoring with 29.4 points per game and averages 5.4 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 2.5 steals a night.

Gay, however, can't be expected to do it by himself. Mauricio Gonzalez, Andy Guerra, Mike Rojas, Santiago Moreno and Dominique Duke must make significant contributions for Poly to prevail.

"DJ has been exceptional up to this point, there's no denying it," Katz said. "We need the role players to play their roles. Everyone must do their job. It's critical."
