BOYS' BASKETBALL NOTEBOOK: LANCASTER'S TITLE NO HELP IN PLAYOFFS.

Byline: Sean Ceglinsky Staff Writer

When Lancaster High's boys' basketball team clinched the Golden League title in the final game of the regular season two weeks ago, the Eagles figured they had bettered their position for the Southern Section playoffs.

It was a sad end to a fine season by the Eagles (18-10), who closed the regular season with seven successive wins and played well during a difficult nonleague schedule in which it faced five teams ranked in the Daily News Top 20 or Small Schools Top 10.

``I couldn't have asked for more,'' Humphreys said. ``We overcame a lot this year.''

``Robert and Javaughn were big for us this year,'' Humphreys said. ``They provided us with leadership. That will be hard to replace. I wish I had them both back next year. That's the way high school basketball is, though.''

Returning will be Tielden McKissic and Joshua Cribbs Joshua Cribbs (born June 9, 1983 in Washington, D.C.) is an American football player who currently plays wide receiver and special teams for the National Football League's Cleveland Browns. ``I'm going to give the guys three weeks off, and then it's back to work,'' Humphreys said. ``We're going to work on getting better now and be in good position to make a run at the playoffs next year.''
