BOYS' BASKETBALL NOTEBOOK: FUTURE BRUINS RIVALS FOR NOW.

Byline: Vincent Bonsignore Staff Writer

It figures one of the first people Taft High of Woodland Hills' basketball standout Jordan Farmar Jordan Robert Farmar (born November 30, 1986) is an American professional basketball player at starting point guard for the NBA's Los Angeles Lakers.

He was previously the starting point guard for the UCLA men's basketball team.
ran into Saturday at the UCLA-Notre Dame basketball game was Josh Shipp Josh Shipp (born 23 January in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma) is an American motivational speaker and author focusing on youth and college-aged audiences. He is noted as being one of the youngest speakers ever accepted into the National Speakers Association. , star at Fairfax of Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. .

The two future Bruins teammates were coming off stirring City Championship semifinal victories the night before. Farmar and Taft (25-2) had beaten Dorsey of Los Angeles 64-63, and Shipp and Fairfax (23-4) beat Cleveland of Reseda 73-64 to set up the championship final Saturday between Taft and Fairfax at 7 p.m. at the Sports Arena.

Farmar and Shipp had a lot to say to one another as they watched UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles

get pounded by Notre Dame Notre Dame IPA: [nɔtʁ dam] is French for Our Lady, referring to the Virgin Mary. In the United States of America, Notre Dame  and looked ahead to their personal duel Saturday.

``Of course there was some talking going on,'' Farmar said, laughing. ``We went back and forth the whole game.''

The same figures to be the case when Farmar and Shipp face each other in the championship game. Farmar, a McDonald's All-American, is averaging 28 points per game and Shipp 30.

But Farmar, who plays on the same travel team as Shipp, is quick to point out the game goes far deeper than a one-on-one between two friends.

``I'm definitely not looking at this as a personal battle,'' Farmar said. ``Obviously, he's one of their keys, but they have a talented team overall and that's how we have to approach them. They've got a number of people who can hurt you.''

Such as junior forward Jamal Boykin, who is averaging 20 points. Taft also has help around its star, getting contributions from shooting guard The Shooting guard (SG), also known as the two or off guard,[1] is one of five traditional positions on a basketball team. Players of the position are often shorter, leaner, and quicker than forwards.  Matt Cook (11 points) and Calvin Haynes, who is averaging 17 points a game since returning to the team three weeks ago.

Taft is making its first appearance in the City championship game.

--Coming at ya: Centennial High (28-2) of Compton guard Arron Afflalo Arron Agustin Afflalo (born October 15, 1985) is an American professional basketball player, currently with the Detroit Pistons. He recently completed a three-year career at University of California, Los Angeles in the Pacific Ten Conference of the NCAA as the starting shooting  has a message for Harvard-Westlake of Studio City heading in their Southern Section Div. III-A championship game at 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the Pond in Anaheim: He's been waiting a long time for this game.

Afflalo, a McDonald's All-American who will play for UCLA, still stings from last season's losses to Harvard-Westlake - the first in the Div. IIIA IIIA Internet Information Infrastructure Architecture
IIIA Integrated Intelligence Information Application

championship game and the second a week later in the Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  state regional playoffs.

That's why Afflalo was happy Harvard-Westlake (21-7) shook off some early-season troubles to sweep through its three postseason games, setting a rematch REMATCH Cardiology Clinical trials–Randomized Evaluation of Mechanical Assistance Therapy as an alternative in Congestive Heart failure–related to use of a portable, electric left ventricular-assist system–LVAS–eg, HeartMate® .

``Oh, most definitely,'' Afflalo said. ``You always want a chance to get the team that knocked you off the last time. Everybody wants the chance to redeem themselves. This is the game we wanted to see.''

And that's just fine with two-time defending-champion Harvard-Westlake, which is playing in its third consecutive final. Although this time it is the underdog.

--Don't underestimate Housman: Calabasas guard Drew Housman - all 5-foot-7, 140 pounds of him - hardly cuts an imposing figure. But Santa Margarita Santa Margarita ("Saint Margaret") may refer to:
  • Santa Margarita (shipwreck), a shipwreck off the coast of Florida near Key West.
  • Rancho Santa Margarita, California, United States
fans will learn the little player has a big game when the teams meet for the Div. IIIAA championship game at the Pond at 9 a.m. Saturday.

When Calabasas (23-4) went on the road in the quarterfinals and semifinals to beat Artesia and Servite, respectively, the fans took great pleasure in riding Housman.

He responded by hitting big shot after big shot. His 32 points against Servite on Friday was the primary reasons Calabasas advanced to their first championship game.

``The fans there were chanting, 'baby, baby, baby,' '' said Calabasas coach Russell White. ``And I just looked at one of my coaches and said, 'Do they realize he's got 30 points?' Drew thrives on that stuff. It keeps him motivated.''
