BOYS' BASKETBALL NOTEBOOK: A.V. COACH HAS THE GOLDEN JITTERS.

Byline: Vincent Bonsignore Staff Writer

Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. For the census-designated place in Wyoming, see Antelope Valley-Crestview, Wyoming.

The Antelope Valley
coach Tom Hegre was worried slightly this week with the start of Golden League play.

Yes, the Antelopes had played well during their nonleague schedule, the highlight of which was a strong finish heading into their first league game. And yes, their impressive performance had vaulted them to conference-title favorites.

But Hegre fretted anyway.

``You're always a little concerned because teen-agers can be very unpredictable,'' Hegre said.

The worries turned out to be unwarranted, at least for a night. Antelope Valley beat Highland in its league opener Tuesday even without standout guard Eric Williams Dr. Eric Eustace Williams (September 25, 1911 – March 29, 1981) was the first Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago. He served from 1956 until his death in 1981. He was also a noted Caribbean historian. , who sat the game out for disciplinary reasons.

Figure on the Antelopes (13-4, 1-0) keeping it up throughout league, especially with Williams returning, the all-around play of Ollie Ollie may refer to the following:
  • Shortened form of the given name Oliver
  • Ollie (skateboarding trick), the skateboarding trick invented by Alan "Ollie" Gelfand
  • Ollie Impossible, a variant of the trick first performed by Rodney Mullen
Bradley and the continued development of 6-foot-9 forward Jonathan Holland Jonathan Holland is a Maltese midfielder, born on the 15th August 1978. He made his debut with Floriana FC in the Maltese Premier League in the season 1994-1995. After 10 seasons withFloriana FC, in 2005-2006 he joined Birkirkara FC. .

Not that Hegre still isn't concerned. He doesn't expect anything to come easily for the Antelopes.

``Everything gets so much closer once league play starts,'' Hegre said. ``You rarely see any blowouts and that's because there is so much familiarity between the teams. Everyone knows what everyone else does.''

--Wound up tight: Hart coach Tom Kelly People named Tom Kelly include:

  • Tom Kelly (basketball) (born 1924), played in 27 games for the Boston Celtics in the 1948-49 NBA season.

``You know it's going to be emotional, but you know you have to control it,'' Kelly said. ``You don't want to get to wound up and start rushing shots or not running the offense. It's like John Wooden used to say: 'Be quick, but don't be in a hurry.' ''

Antelope antelope, name applied to a large number of hoofed, ruminant mammals of the cattle family (Bovidae), which also includes the sheep and goats. The North American pronghorn is sometimes called an antelope, but belongs to a separate, related family (Antilocapridae).  Valley's Ollie Bradley is one reason Antelopes coach Tom Hegre can rest a bit easier this season.
