a big relief in the fact that it gives you some breathing room,'' Quartz Hill guard Nate Forte said. ``Through the course of a season, you always factor in the possibility of playing that one bad game, and now, even if we do run into that, we have a two-game lead to fall back on.''

. After going undefeated through the first half of their league schedule, they want more.

``Our feeling is why not go undefeated?'' Forte said. ``And we can use that as motivation to avoid any letdowns. The key is approaching every game with the same intensity we've approached the first five. That's worked really well for us, so let's just keep it up.''

The Rebels passed their latest test with a 72-50 victory Thursday over Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. For the census-designated place in Wyoming, see Antelope Valley-Crestview, Wyoming.

``It was really nice not having to play in another big-time-pressure fourth quarter,'' Forte said. ``We got a chance to relax and have some fun, and that was really nice. Plus, it gave the whole team a chance to get some playing time, and for the reserves, we were all happy to see them out there. They've worked really hard, and they deserve a chance to get some playing time.''

--Improvement: At first glance, Paraclete's record (7-10, 1-2 Delphic League) wouldn't appear noteworthy. But after struggling for wins the past two seasons, it's quite an achievement.

``It's definitely something to build on,'' first-year Paraclete coach Mike Vargas said. ``It's been tough for these guys the last few years, so it's nice to see them enjoying some positive momentum.''

--Choices, choices: Antelope Valley Christian center Chawn Johnson will wait until after the season to make his college decision. With several Division I programs showing serious interest, he faces a difficult choice.

One thing Johnson knows is the direction he'll take once he gets to college. He wants to go into the music industry.

One of Johnson's cousins is involved in music.

``She gives me a lot of pointers on how things work,'' Johnson said. ``That's definitely a career I'd like to pursue at some point.''

Professional basketball also is a possibility. The 6-foot-9 center is emerging as one of the West Coast's top prospects.
