BOYS' BASKETBALL: THE RING IS THE THING H.-W., CAMPBELL HALL STILL ARE CHASING TITLES.

Byline: Sean Ceglinsky Staff Writer

Both will have the opportunity to move closer to new rings in tonight's Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  Regional semifinals. ``Winning the state title would be the perfect way to end my senior season,'' said the North Carolina-bound Stepheson, who averages 20.3 points, 17.9 rebounds and 4.5 blocks per game. ``It's something I've been working for the whole year. My whole career.''

The Wolverines (26-5), who defeated Washington Union of Fresno in a state playoff opener Tuesday, have lost twice this season to Centennial (28-3). Tyre Thompson's last-second shot lifted the Apaches to a 59-58 triumph in last weekend's Southern Section Div. III-A championship.

Thompson and fellow senior Jervauhgn Johnson both average more than 15 points per game, and slowing them down is crucial for Harvard-Westlake's success.

``We expect a tough battle - again,'' Harvard-Westlake coach Greg Hilliard said. ``Whenever we play them, it comes down to who brings the most. Our games always come down to the wire. We're going to have to bring a little extra on the floor with us and leave it all there at the end of the game.

``Our goal at the beginning of the year was to make it to the state final. We're still thinking along those lines.''

``We still have something to prove,'' said Jrue Holiday, a sophomore.
