Harvard-Westlake also defeated Centennial 74-72 in overtime in last year's section final and 74-62 in the Southern California State Regional semifinal.

``They just kept beating us and beating us and beating us,'' Afflalo said. ``It was like they had our number. I just told myself if I am going to leave and go to college, I want to leave with a win.''

The Wolverines had no answer for the UCLA-bound Afflalo this time around. The 6-foot-5 guard scored 15 points in the first half to help the Apaches jump to a 21-point lead midway through the second quarter and then hold off a late Harvard-Westlake comeback.

A basket by Afflalo gave Centennial a 40-21 lead with 3:21 left in the third quarter. ``We can score points pretty fast but it was pretty tough tonight,'' said Taylor, who fouled out with 49 seconds to play. ``Every time we scored, we were trading baskets with them. We knew they wanted to win as badly as us. Little things matter, and we didn't get it done tonight.''

Centennial took care of things from the start to silence a standing-room only crowd, jumping to a 14-6 lead after the first quarter. It started a spurt of 16 consecutive points that gave the Apaches a 27-6 lead with 3:52 left before halftime.

Harvard-Westlake went scoreless from the 2:37 mark of the first quarter to the 3:28 mark of the second quarter, a span of 7:09 without a point.

Harvard-Westlake trailed in the three previous meetings, including by 10 in the first half of this year's section final.

Centennial, however, maintained its composure despite three starters playing with three fouls on Thursday, going into a spread offense through much of the fourth quarter. Afflalo made 5 of 6 free throws down the stretch to end the Wolverines' comeback hopes.
