BOYS' BASKETBALL: GUARDS PUT IT TOGETHER FOR TAFT TAFT 69, CRENSHAW 66.

Byline: Vincent Bonsignore Staff Writer

It takes more than a McDonald's All-American to advance to the City Championship finals.

Taft High of Woodland Hills All-American Jordan Farmar Jordan Robert Farmar (born November 30, 1986) is an American professional basketball player at starting point guard for the NBA's Los Angeles Lakers.

He was previously the starting point guard for the UCLA men's basketball team.

To formally certify by a signature that the signer has been present at the execution of a particular writing so as  to that. More and more, opponents are focusing their defensive attention on the Toreadors' All-American guard, and more and more, Farmar is finding out he has some capable teammates to lean on when the defensive pressure intensifies.

, and when the Cougars turned their defensive attention on Farmar, he didn't panic.

Emerging sophomore guard Calvin Haynes decided to have the best game of his young career, scoring a game-high 27 points to complement Farmar's 23 and the Toreadors advanced to their second consecutive City Championship semifinal by hanging on for a 69-66 victory.

Taft (25-2) will play at Dorsey of Los Angeles on Friday. A win puts the Toreadors into their first ever City final.

``Calvin was huge,'' Farmar said. ``He was on top of his game.''

getting his grades in order. All he's done since joining the team is average 19 points per game and provide a dependable scoring alternative to Farmar and Matt Cook.

Haynes' big night was particularly important because Cook struggled with his outside shot early in the game and didn't see much court time down the stretch.

``He had an off night, and the game was too important to try to ride it out,'' Taft coach Derrick derrick: see crane.

Taylor said. ``That's why Calvin is so important for us. If someone is struggling, we have a third guy to turn to.''

Taft was never in total control, surviving a near disastrous final two minutes in which it nearly gave away an 8-point lead. Crenshaw, which trailed 69-61 with 2:03 left, drew tro within 68-66 with 11 seconds thanks to three straight Taft turnovers and missed free throws by Farmar and Cook.

``It was ugly those last couple of minutes but fortunately we hung in there and pulled it out,'' said Farmar who hit a free throw with nine seconds left to make it 69-66, then forced an off balance 3-pointer by Brandon Sampay that sailed long as time expired.

``We want to finish this thing out,'' Haynes said. ``We're in the semifinals, so why not get another win and go to the finals.''
