BOYS` VOLLEYBALL BEAT : COMMITMENT TO LOCAL EXCELLENCE.

A starting lineup in sports refers to the set of players actively participating in the event when the game begins. The players in the starting lineup are commonly referred to as starters, whereas the others are substitutes

The past two recruiting classes have produced at least seven area players, including four in the past three weeks.

Credit coach the determination of Jeff Campbell Jeff Campbell (Born August 25, 1979) is a New Zealand soccer player who has represented his country at U20, U23 and senior levels.

The attacking midfielder made his debut for the All Whites against Jamaica in January 2000 and collected 13 caps (5 goals).

``I don't want anyone who's good to play anywhere else,'' he said. ``You look at 'SC, UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles
UCLA University Center for Learning Assistance (Illinois State University)
UCLA University of Carrollton, TX and Lower Addison, TX
and Pepperdine, and you say they're good schools. They don't say that about Northridge.''

So Campbell has set about to change that in volleyball circles. He sells the program and himself - a Chatsworth High graduate, an All-American at Northridge who recently married and bought a house in Chatsworth.

TOURNAMENT WRAPUP

The area teams showed their quality at last weekend's Dos Pueblos tournament. Three teams - Royal, Crespi and Taft - reached the quarterfinals, and Newbury Park also reached the playoffs.

Littlerock and Granada Hills failed to advance from pool play, but each had its moments.

Following are highlights:

Royal: Cam Dickson was the only area player to make the all-tournament team. The Highlanders won their pool but lost to Fresno Bullard after beating Bullard in pool play. Bullard reached the final.

Crespi: Setter Matt Miller turned some heads with his play, leading the Celts The following pages provide lists of nations or people of Celtic origin, arranged by branch of Celtic ethnicity or language grouping:

.

Taft: The Toreadors were a last-minute replacement for Harvard-Westlake, which dropped out because of injuries and players on vacation. Then they went farther than any Taft team since 1989. Taft beat University, lost two close ones to San Marcos, beat Madera and split with El Toro El To·ro

. In the playoffs, the Toreadors beat Santa Barbara before falling to eventual champion Francis Parker of San Diego. But Taft scored more points than anyone else.

All this without middle blocker Eric Bowen, who was with his ill father.

Newbury Park: The Panthers, especially Rob Congelliere, woke up from their beating by Royal to beat Santa Ynez, Buena and University of San Diego High. But the Panthers didn't wake up in time to challenge Loyola, which won the pool. They lost to Crespi 15-13.

Littlerock: The Lobos lost top hitter Chris Gorny early to a dislocated dis·lo·cate

, hyperextended and bruised finger. Marc Mailander stepped up and led the team to pool-play wins over Alemany and Clovis.

As for Gorny, he is expected to play in Wednesday's Golden League opener against Highland.

Granada Hills: The Highlanders lost setter Frank Nguyen to a sprained ankle but still scored 19 points off Bullard without him.

College commitment: La Canada's Emily Dalbeck said she will attend USC An abbreviation for U.S. Code. .

Watch for him: One reason Moorpark is a favorite to contend for the Frontier League title is 6-2 outside hitter Shaun Corby. The junior can set and hit, has a high vertical leap and a fast arm swing. Plus, he recently tried out for the under-17 national team.

Breaking out: Poly has been a doormat the past three seasons. But this year the Parrots have established themselves as one of the top 3-A teams in the City Section, by virtue of their 6-1 record and victories over Monroe and Van Nuys.

Leading the way is 6-0 outside hitter/setter Gilbert Ramos, averaging 22 kills and 20 assists per match. Junior James Word stands 6-3 and has helped in the middle, averaging 13 kills.
