After second-seeded Colton had a goal disallowed in the second overtime, Dominic Baiocco responded by burying the biggest shot of La Canada's season in the 97th minute, leading the host Spartans to a 2-1 win in the Southern Section Div. V boys' soccer quarterfinals.

Aside from a goal by Justin Young in the 72nd minute, King was flawless in net for La Canada (14-7-2), which advanced to the semifinals for the first time since 2001.

But for a brief moment in the second extra period, the senior didn't know if it was Colton (15-6-4) that would be celebrating, after Young's apparent go-ahead goal in the 96th minute was waived off because of a foul.

"I saw the ball go in the net and I didn't hear the whistle A simple whistle is a woodwind instrument which produces sound from a stream of forced air.

Colton produced a corner kick in the final minute, resulting in a six-yard shot by Pope near the left post. But King turned it away and the final whistle blew seconds later, causing fans to storm the field in celebration.
