BOYS' SOCCER PLAYOFFS: QUARTZ HILL BEATS CRESPI.

After Logan McDaniel received a lob pass from Joshua Hoeft, he didn't try to do too much.

The Quartz Hill senior gathered himself and lifted a gentle shot over the extended arms of Crespi of Encino goalkeeper Brandon Ibarra in the 28th minute, leading the Rebels to a 1-0 Southern Section Div. I wild-card victory Wednesday.

McDaniel's eighth goal of the year was enough to help Quartz Hill (11-5-4) advance to the first-round Saturday, when it will visit second- seeded Millikan of Long Beach (25-1-3).

"(McDaniel) played the ball perfectly," Quartz Hill coach Parham Ostadi said. "He wasn't too agressive, he used the soft touch that shot needed to get in the net."

The Rebels also got strong play in the net. The goalkeeping tandem of senior Johnny Volk and sophomore Alex Spencer combined for the shutout.

Burroughs 3, Lompoc 2 (OT): Gilen Guenther scored the deciding goal in overtime for host Burroughs of Burbank in the wild-card game.

Burroughs, the third-place representative from the Pacific League, advanced to face Freeway League champion and No. 3-seed Fullerton on Saturday.

Jordan Ashegian also scored for host Milken (15-3-3) in the wild-card victory.

Delphi Academy 4, Serra 1: Dominic Domingo and Patrick Riggs each scored a pair of goals to lead Delphi Academy of Lake View Terrace to a victory over Serra of Gardena in wild-card play.
