BOYS' BASKETBALL DAILY NEWS ALL-AREA TEAM AND HIGHLIGHTS OF THE SEASON PLAYER OF THE YEAR.

Byline: Compiled by Vincent Bonsignore Staff Writer

JORDAN FARMAR Jordan Robert Farmar (born November 30, 1986) is an American professional basketball player at starting point guard for the NBA's Los Angeles Lakers.

He was previously the starting point guard for the UCLA men's basketball team.
, Sr., Taft, PG

Farmar, a 6-foot-2 point guard, capped his high school career with one of the best seasons in the area's recent history. He averaged 27.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.4 assists and four steals to lead Taft of Woodland Hills to the City Section championship - the first time a city team from the region has won the title since Granada Hills in 1964. Those efforts led Farmar to be named the City Player of the Year. He was also named a McDonald's All-American, the most prestigious honor in high school basketball. Farmar will play next year at UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles
UCLA University Center for Learning Assistance (Illinois State University)
UCLA University of Carrollton, TX and Lower Addison, TX
.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Derrick Taylor, Taft

OK, so Taylor said his job was easier having Jordan Farmar on his side, but that fact doesn't take away from the coach's impact. In the playoffs, he got the most out of his lineup by maximizing players like Matt Cook, Calvin Haynes, Pierce Brooks, Jabari Samuel, Ronnell Ramsey, Maurice Walters and Alex Drob. In doing so, Taylor put the Toreadors in position to win games, culminating with the City Section championship, the first by a San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley

team since Granada Hills in 1964.

FIRST TEAM

NICK YOUNG, Sr., Cleveland, F

Young, a 6-foot-7 forward, averaged 27 points, 11 rebounds and two blocked shots to lead Cleveland of Reseda to a share of the West Valley League championship and the semifinals of the City Section playoffs. The USC-bound Young played his best in big games.

BRYCE TAYLOR Bryce Taylor is an American college basketball player at the University of Oregon. The 6'5", 205 pound junior guard is currently averaging 14.6 ppg and 5.1 rpg. High School , Sr., Harvard-Westlake, G

championship, averaging 25 points per game on a deep, talented team. The Oregon-bound Taylor was outstanding in Harvard-Westlake's 73-64 victory over Centennial of Compton in the Div. IIIA championship game, scoring 15 points with 10 rebounds and 10 assists.

DREW HOUSMAN, Jr., Calabasas, PG

The first thing people notice about Housman is his size - or lack of it. At 5-foot-7, 140 pounds, he doesn't cut an imposing figure. But when he plays, the focus becomes his all-around game. Housman averaged 19 points and five assists to lead the Coyotes to the Southern Section Div. IIIAA championship, their first title in school history.

ADAM RICH Adam Rich (born on October 12 1968) is an American actor born in Brooklyn, New York City. He is arguably best remembered for playing youngest son Nicholas Bradford on the 1970s television drama Eight is Enough , Sr., Hart, F

The 6-foot-6 Rich spent the offseason working on his quickness and strength, and the effort paid off. He averaged 22.3 points to lead Hart of Newhall to the Foothill League championship and the Southern Section Div. IA semifinals.

EVAN HARRIS Evan Leslie Harris BM BCh MP (born 21 October 1965) is a British Liberal Democrat politician. He is the Member of Parliament for Oxford West and Abingdon. Education and professional career , Sr., Harvard-Westlake, C

The unsung hero of the Wolverines' third consecutive Southern Section Div. IIIA championship, the 6-foot-7 Harris averaged 14.1 points and 12 rebounds. He was especially effective in the championship game against Centennial of Compton, when he controlled the inside to give the Wolverines of Studio City a chance to come back and win.

MIKE DANIELIAN, Jr., Grant, G

Danielian had one of the best outside shooting years in region history, setting a school record with 99 3-pointers. He averaged 21 points to lead the Lancers lanc·er

DEONTE HUFF, Sr., Lancaster, G

Huff averaged 19 points to lead Lancaster to a share of the Golden League title. The 6-foot-4 guard was unstoppable at times this season, especially when he scored 19 of his game-high 34 points in the fourth quarter as Lancaster beat Highland of Palmdale to earn a share of the league title.

MIKE HORNBUCKLE, Sr., Oaks Christian, G

Hornbuckle, a 6-foot-5 forward, averaged 22 points and four assists to lead the Lions of Westlake Village to the Tri-Valley League title.

PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR

Three stand out. On Jan. 23, Chatsworth was at the mercy of Taft star Jordan Farmar, who opened the game with 14 first-quarter points on his way to 46 points in just three quarters of play. Farmar was 13 of 23 from the field, including 5 of 8 on 3-pointers, and hit 12 of 14 free throws.

Grant's Mike Danielian could not miss in a game against Hollywood on Jan. 21, scoring 42 points and tying a school record with nine 3-pointers in a 112-91 victory.

And in a game against Malibu on Jan. 20, Oaks Christian's Mike Hornbuckle scored 51 points with eight assists and eight rebounds in a 107-53 victory.

BEST LEAGUE RACE

It's hard to argue against Taft of Woodland Hills and Cleveland of Reseda, which tied for the West Valley League title. But the way Lancaster came back to earn a share of the Golden League title with Highland of Palmdale was especially noteworthy.

Lancaster lost to Highland at home 78-77 on Jan. 22 to fall a game behind the Bulldogs. The Eagles' only hope was to win at Highland in the regular-season finale.

Lancaster, behind Deonte Huff's 34 points - 19 in the fourth quarter - easily won 84-72 to earn a share of the title.
