BOYS' BASKETBALL: TAFT'S KAMWA MAY HAVE BEEN INELIGIBLE.

Byline: SEAN CEGLINSKY Special to the Daily News

Bernard Kamwa was expected to make an immediate impact for the Taft High of Woodland Hills boys' basketball team after transferring from Ribet Academy of Los Angeles over the summer.

Now it looks as if he might have an impact of the wrong kind. The City Section office is investigating whether Kamwa is athletically ineligible after finding a discrepancy with his legal guardianship paperwork.

``We have some conflicting information with regards to Bernard Kamwa, and Taft is in the process of doing an internal investigation to gather the proper documentation and resolve the matter,'' said Trent Cornelius, a special assistant with the athletics office of the City Section. ``It could be as simple as a clerical error, but nothing has been determined at this time.''

The timing couldn't be worse for Taft (18-4), one of the top teams in the City Section. If Kamwa is declared ineligible, the Toreadors will be forced to forfeit multiple games, resulting in a considerably lower seed in the 16-team City championship playoff field, which will be announced Saturday.

Kamwa missed the past twogames for the Toreadors as a result of the investigation and will sit out the final two regular-season games this week while his case is being reviewed.
