 commit who is rated among the nation's top prep players, dazzled the crowd -- and perhaps Mater Dei -- with a variety of inside moves and a soft touch from the outside.

Holiday did all he could for the defending Div. IV state champion Vikings, but Dallas Rutherford (13 points) was the only teammate who scored in double figures, as Mater Dei came from nine points down.

"Forty-five points doesn't matter because we still lost, but we came out and competed with Mater Dei, so obviously we're doing something right," Holiday said.

"He can jump, and he's a great shooter -- plus he's got a great attitude -- so the sky's the limit for him," White said.

Von Wright update: Justus Von Wright, Van Nuys' top graduating senior, plans to spend a year at a prep school back east after failing to land a college scholarship.

"I don't understand it because he has the grades and the SAT score. He's all qualified," White said.
