BOYS' BASKETBALL: DREW TAKES OVER FOR TAFT.

Byline: SEAN n. 1. A seine. See Seine.  CEGLINSKY Staff Writer

There was a buzz in the crowd Friday as the finals seconds ticked off the clock at Fairfax High.

Most in attendance were talking, some admiring, others gushing gush

, about the way Taft of Woodland Hills' Larry Drew Larry Donnell Drew (born April 2 1958 in Kansas City, Missouri) is a retired American professional basketball player who was selected by the Detroit Pistons in the 1st round (17th overall) of the 1980 NBA Draft.  took over the final four minutes of the quarterfinal showdown in the Fairfax Tournament against Campbell Hall Campbell Hall can refer to:

of North Hollywood, guiding the Toreadors to a 73-66 victory and into today's semifinal clash against host Fairfax.

``I've said this before, and I'll say it again, Larry is just one of those big-time players who makes big-time plays in big-time situations,'' Taft coach Derrick derrick: see crane.

Taft used a 12-0 run in the first half to open up a 39-28 lead at intermission and held a double-digit advantage for the first five minutes of the second half. But Campbell Hall rallied to cut the deficit to three points with 4:43 remaining.

Drew then took over, stealing a pass at the Taft end of the court and going coast to coast for a layup. The 6-foot point guard found Terran Carter, Justin Hawkins and Bryce Smith wide open on the Toreadors' next three possessions to turn what had become a close game into a 10-point Toreadors lead with 40.5 seconds left.

``I've always thought that you have to be at your best when it counts the most,'' Drew said. ``I play harder as the game goes on. I never take a play off.''

Justin Holiday was equally impressive for the Vikings. The 6-6 forward had been troubled by a sprained wrist earlier this month, but he scored 18 points in the first half. He finished with a game-high 35 points.

``Justin is Justin I, c.450–527, Byzantine emperor (518–27); successor of Anastasius I. He was chief of the imperial guard and became emperor when Anastasius died. Justin persecuted the Monophysites and maintained close relations with the Western Church.  budding budding, type of grafting in which a plant bud is inserted under the bark of the stock (usually not more than a year old). Smith finished with 17 points, Hawkins had 11 and Oscar Bellfield finished with 17 for Taft. Jrue Holiday added 14 points for the Vikings.
