BIG BEAR LAKE - For six days Christina Stebbins endured the pain of multiple gunshots while hidden in a garage as the boyfriend who shot her, and his parents, treated her wounds with gauze, soap, water and antiseptic, sheriff's deputies said Saturday.

Stebbins, 35, was in critical condition Saturday evening at Loma Linda University Medical Center where she was flown Wednesday after a family friend, who learned of the shooting and the reluctance of the others to summon paramedics, called deputies.

Stebbins' boyfriend, Christian Leroy Lindblad, 36, is being held in lieu of $500,000 bail on suspicion of attempted murder, deputies said. He was booked at the sheriff's Central Detention Center in San Bernardino.

Whether his parents, Bob and Samantha Lindblad, who headed the Big Bear Lake-based Natural Heritage Foundation, a nonprofit wildlife protection agency, would face charges is under investigation, deputies said.

``It's a little bizarre,'' said San Bernardino County sheriff's spokeswoman Robin Haynal.

Many details of the shooting and what happened in Stebbins' makeshift emergency room were unclear Saturday.

Stebbins was shot in the abdomen, right arm and right leg by Christian Lindblad on June 27 in the remote home the couple shared on the edge of Baldwin Lake, a few miles east of Big Bear Lake, authorities said.

After the shooting, Christian Lindblad called his parents to help him.

Fearing arrest, Christian Lindblad and his parents kept Stebbins in the home's garage on a mattress, tending to her with home remedies, deputies said.

Despite her injuries, Stebbins was able to tell her rescuers what happened, a fire department official said.

``I'm in shock,'' said Linda Scott, who has known Christian Lindblad for years and said he had worked with her husband, Tom, in construction. ``He just pretty much kept to himself, but he was a pretty nice kid. He's always been quite neighborly.''
