BOY SCOUTS HONOR NURSE WHO TAUGHT CPR TO THE TROOP.

Byline: SIMONE SCHRAMM Community columnist

Jody Junor, a registered nurse and head of education at the Encino-Tarzana Regional Medical Center, received special recognition from Boy Scout Troop 210 in Burbank for teaching them cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

The troop recently presented her with a scrapbook of stories and a photographic pictorial of her life. Her son, Los Angeles sheriff's Lt. Michael Parker assisted in the presentation.

Skip Gillett, troop committee chairman, said it was difficult to find a qualified instructor willing to teach CPR to adolescents, but that Junor eagerly accepted the challenge after her grandson joined the troop.

``This is not really about what I did but what the troop did,'' Junor said. ``It took almost a year to get them all through the process.''

The Encino/Tarzana Medical Center donated $500 to scouting efforts on Junor's behalf.

Teddy Clinkscale, who coaches youth basketball at the West Valley Jewish Community Center in West Hills, was among 29 Junior NBA and Junior WNBA coaches in the United States to be honored as coach of the year.

The winners, who each received $2,000, are: Howson Fong of Birmingham High School in Van Nuys; Greg Keeling of Monroe High School in North Hills; Lauri Manaka of Verdugo Hills High School; and Tom Scott of Grant High School in Van Nuys.

Three architecture students from John F. Kennedy High School were recognized during the Building Industry Association's recent architecture competition.

Sharleen Rosales received first place for creativity, and Iliana Garcia placed second. Cecilia Lladoc won third place for technical merit and also placed first in the National Association of Women in Construction Competition.

Six local students won $1,000 each in the 12th annual Honda/Machado Academic Scholarship Essay Contest. They are: Howard Henry, !Lucas Kacher and Brian Lopez of Birmingham High; Rodolfo Leyva and Mario Machado of North Hollywood High; and Cynthia Yim of Cleveland High School in Reseda.
