A TEENAGE footballer was airlifted to hospital after a horrific accident at a match yesterday.

Doctors fear the teen may have punctured his lung at the game on Arranmore Island, Co Donegal.

The 19-year-old was treated on the island before being airlifted to Letterkenny General Hospital Letterkenny General Hospital (Irish: Ospidéal Ginearálta Leitir Ceanainn) is an acute hospital serving the inhabitants of County Donegal in the Republic of Ireland. .

It is believed he suffered a punctured lung and other injuries.

A spokesman at Malin Head, co-ordinators of the airlift, said they tasked the Sligo-based helicopter to carry out the operation.

It is understood the victim is a member of one of the 16 football teams from Ireland and Scotland on Arranmore for the Bank Holiday.
