``This would be a serious assault for any age but certainly for kids this age,'' said Lancaster sheriff's station commander Capt. Carl Deeley. ``When you start kicking someone in the head ... this whole thing could have been much worse.''

The three boys were cited and released to the custody of their parents. One boy's mother was cited as well after she came to the school and created a disturbance DISTURBANCE, torts. The deputy had to call for other deputies to help him, Deeley said.

The attack occurred about noon Monday at Amargosa Creek Middle School. Deeley said the 11-year-old tried to grab the victim's belt buckle, which was described as looking like a spinning car wheel.

After the victim shoved the boy away, someone else tackled him from behind, Deeley said. Then the 11-year-old and two other boys kicked the victim until the vice principal halted the attack.

``We're talking about a pretty vicious attack for kids this young,'' Deeley said. ``Anytime you have three on one it's a cowardly attack but we've really had no other problems out of this school. This was a very unusual occurrence there.''
