BOY, 10, SENTENCED OVER BRIDGE PUSH; Mother weeps as son is given two-year supervision order.

A BOY of 10 was today sentenced to a two-year supervision order for pushing a schoolboy 20ft off a road bridge.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before Warrington crown court.

He had previously admitted causing grevious bodily harm The medical idea of (grievous) bodily harm is more specific than legal ideas of assault or violence in general, and distinct from property damage.

Stephen Oldham Stephen Oldham (born July 26, 1948) was an English cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-fast bowler.

Oldham spent most of his first-class career with Yorkshire County Cricket Club, making his debut in the 1974 County Championship, taking 3/7 in an
, eight, narrowly escaped death after he was pushed off the bridge near his Warrington home.

The incident, in July, left Stephen in a wheelchair for six weeks.

The court heard how Stephen had been on the wrong side of the railings on the bridge when he was pushed off.

A witness said that Stephen "fell to the floor like a rag doll."

 said: "The report said that you don't want to be told off, but what you did to Stephen was wrong and it was wicked."

The boy, whose mother wept as sentence was passed, nodded when the judge told him: "You could have killed him, you know that don't you?

"Then you would have been taken away from your mum and your home.

"You caused great injury and you caused great upset to his parents.

"You caused your mother great worry and concern and you must never do anything as stupid or wicked again, do you understand.

"There is no doubt in my mind that a supervision order is the correct punishment, "You have got to try to never come back to a court like this again.

"I don't want to have to see you again."

 told the court that the defendant had suffered from an attention defecit disorder and that since being treated and attending a special school he had greatly improved.

After the hearing Stephen's mother Sandra Oldham, 34, said: "My son almost died as a result of a mindless action from a boy who needs help.

"To be honest, I never expected him to be severely punished and I must accept the judge's decision.

"Although it does not feel right to want a 10-year-old boy punished, I still do.

"Stephen went through hell and we could so easily have lost him. He was put in a wheelchair and was in agony agony,
