BOXING : RAFAEL RUELAS IN MUST-WIN FIGHT IN TEXAS TONIGHT.


If things don't go well tonight, Rafael Ruelas could be facing the end of his boxing career.

Ruelas, coming off consecutive losses to Oscar De La Hoya Oscar de la Hoya (IPA pronunciation: [ˈɑs.kɛɹ dɛ.lɑ.ˈhɔɪ.jɑ][1]) (born February 4, 1973) — nicknamed the Golden Boy  and George Scott, takes on relative unknown Tomas Barrientes in San Antonio, Texas “San Antonio” redirects here. San Antonio is the second most populous city in Texas, the third most populous metropolitan area in Texas, and is the seventh most populous city in the United States. As of the 2006 U.S.
, in a 10-round bout he hopes will point him back in the direction of big-money fights.

A loss might be too much to overcome.

``I have to win this fight,'' he admitted.

 lightweight champion (43-3, with 34 knockouts) will be fighting at junior welterweight (140 pounds) for the first time. He weighed in Monday at 139-1/2 pounds.

Barrientes (18-2, 10 KOs), a solid boxer with a light punch, also is fighting at his heaviest (138-1/2). He has fought most of bouts at 130 pounds.

However, he relishes the opportunity to face a big-name opponent. He's very popular in San Antonio - he's a native Texan - but has never fought on national television. The fight is on USA.

``I took this fight to make a name for myself,'' Barrientes said. ``. . . With this guy, I know I can get clean shots in. He's kind of slow. I'm kind of quick.

``I'm real confident.''
