BOWNE OPENS PALO ALTO OFFICE GRAND OPENING, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 12

 BOWNE OPENS PALO ALTO OFFICE
 GRAND OPENING, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 12
PALO ALTO, Calif., Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- A new full-service financial printing office has been opened in Palo Alto by Bowne & Co., Inc. (AMEX: BNE), the nation's oldest and largest financial printer. The Palo Alto office, Bowne's sixth California operation, is designed to provide extra convenience for Bowne's many clients among the attorneys, accountants and high-tech firms of the Silicon Valley.
The all-new 10,000 square foot facility at 1800 Embarcadero Road includes eight conference rooms designed to permit clients to work comfortably and efficiently at the site. The remainder of the new plant, which is open around-the-clock Monday through Friday, houses Bowne's Palo Alto typesetting, binding, reprographic, customer service and sales departments.
Bowne's new facility employs more than 20 people, nearly all of whom are experienced production and service personnel drawn from financial printing staffs of Bowne's San Francisco, Los Angeles and Century City offices.
The staff hit the ground running. Even before the new facility's formal grand opening, which is scheduled for Nov. 12, a large group representing McAfee Associates, a Santa Clara software firm, showed up bright and early to produce SEC filing documents for an initial public offering (IPO) of 2.6 million shares of common stock. McAfee president and chief operating officer William S. McKiernan commented, "Based on our experience, it appeared the Bowne Palo Alto office had been open for years, not days. We were extremely pleased by the professionalism and attention to detail demonstrated by the staff." Since then, Bowne of Palo Alto has stayed busy beginning work on a number of new stock offerings, plus an assortment of other financial documents, including official statements, proxies, 10-K's and private placements.
Toy Lekuthai, general manager of Bowne of Palo Alto, has more than 18 years of varied financial printing experience. Prior to joining Bowne of Palo Alto, Ms. Lekuthai was vice president for pricing and estimating for Bowne of Los Angeles. Assisting her in the new plant are two 20-year Bay Area financial printing veterans, Day Manager Jerry W. Watson and Night Manager Robert G. Tischer. Both transferred to the Palo Alto facility from Bowne's San Francisco office, which itself will be moving to new quarters in the financial district during November.
Bowne & Co., Inc., founded in 1775, is the world's largest financial printer. It specializes in the preparation and distribution of documentation for securities offerings, corporate restructurings, and other financial transactions. Bowne also produces a variety of similar products, including documents required of financial institutions by the Office of Thrift Services, official statements needed by governmental units offering bonds to the public, and legal briefs for both state and federal courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court. Utilizing the latest in computer and telecommunications technology, Bowne is able to distribute documents to the offices of attorneys, investment bankers and corporate officers anywhere in the world.
