 BOWATER REALIGNS CORPORATE OFFICERS
 DARIEN, Conn., July 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Bowater Incorporated


(NYSE: BOW) today announced the election and realignment of a number of its top executives coincident with the merging of its corporate headquarters and its Pulp and Paper Group on July 1, 1992.
 Anthony P. Gammie, chairman and CEO, said he was relinquishing his title of president to David G. McMaster who will become president and COO of the company. McMaster had been president of the Pulp and Paper Group.
 Richard D. McDonough, formerly senior vice president-finance and CFO, will become vice chairman and CFO. Robert C. Lancaster, vice president-controller, will become senior vice president-finance. James L. Harkness will succeed Lancaster as vice president-controller, the position he previously held with the Pulp and Paper Group.
 John P. Fucigna, vice president-treasurer, has been elected vice president-finance. Succeeding Fucigna as company treasurer is David G. Maffucci, formerly assistant corporate controller.
 Newly elected corporate officers formerly with the Pulp and Paper Group are John C. Davis, vice president-Pulp and Paper sales, David E. McIntyre, vice president-Pulp and Paper manufacturing, Robert A. Moran, vice president-Pulp and Paper manufacturing services, and Aubrey S. Rogers, vice president-information services.
 In March, Gammie announced that the Pulp and Paper Group management organization would be discontinued on July 1 and that over the next year the corporate office staff would be merged with it in Greenville, S.C. He said at that time, "With the acquisition of Great Northern Paper, Inc., we have committed our major resources to being a pulp and paper company for a number of years to come. The overall intent of the consolidation is to improve management communication and efficiency by concentrating all corporate administration in Greenville."
 Bowater Incorporated is a major manufacturer of newsprint and directory paper, lightweight coated publication papers, bleached kraft market pulp and a large converter of communication papers for computer forms and other business applications.
