``We're truly trying to reach all of our families,'' said Turner. ``We're constantly developing ways to reach more of our community.''

Businesses have been involved with the school's programs by sponsoring various events, including Burger King of Saugus sponsoring the back- to-school barbecue; Border's books giving away prizes during the school's Read Across America Day and Marie Callender's donating pies to parents who help in their child's education.

The PIE award is given to parents of children who write paragraphs, essays or keep a journal about how their parents have helped them in their education.

PIE awards are given to three parents each month. Thirty PIES were presented last year.

``They look for those programs which are innovative, involve the whole school community and can be carried on year after year,'' Gustafson said. ``It's been something for us to focus on together.''
