The Saugus campus was one of five schools selected across the country by the National Network of Partnership Schools at Johns Hopkins University Johns Hopkins University, mainly at Baltimore, Md. Epstein, director of the National Network of Partnership Schools. Bouquet Canyon Elementary became involved with the National Network of Partnership Schools about three years ago when a local school representative attended a training session offered by Johns Hopkins Noun 1. Some of the programs initiated at the local schools include a Dads Day, Read Across America Day, Parent Involvement in Education (PIE) award, summer correspondence packages and a back-to-school barbecue barbecue [West Indian or South American], in the United States, traditionally an open-air gathering, political or social, in which meats are roasted whole over a pit of embers and food and drink are liberally enjoyed. . ``We're truly trying to reach all of our families,'' said Turner. ``We're constantly developing ways to reach more of our community.'' Businesses have been involved with the school's programs by sponsoring various events, including Burger King of Saugus sponsoring the back- to-school barbecue; Border's books giving away prizes during the school's Read Across America Day and Marie Callender's donating pies to parents who help in their child's education. The PIE award is given to parents of children who write paragraphs, essays or keep a journal about how their parents have helped them in their education. PIE awards are given to three parents each month. Thirty PIES were presented last year. ``They look for those programs which are innovative, involve the whole school community and can be carried on year after year,'' Gustafson said. ``It's been something for us to focus on together.'' Winning schools will be featured in Education Weekly, a magazine; will receive a banner naming them as a national winner, and will be featured on a Disney Web site that will also provide a link to the school. ``It's truly very exciting and gratifying grat·i·fy tr.v. grat·i·fied, grat·i·fy·ing, grat·i·fies 1.
