BOUNDARY CHANGE WEIGHED.

Byline: Bhavna Mistry Staff Writer

SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  - Hoping to balance enrollment at its junior highs, the Hart School Board is considering changing the boundaries for future students of La Mesa La Mesa (lə mā`sə), city (1990 pop. 52,931), San Diego co., S Calif., a suburb of San Diego; inc. 1912. It is a retail center and a popular residence for upper- and middle-income professionals in the San Diego area.  Junior High School.

Under the proposal expected to be voted on Nov. 8, students now attending Pinetree and Sulphur Springs Sulphur Springs, city (1990 pop. 14,062), seat of Hopkins co., NE Tex., in a farm area; inc. 1859. ``It's not reasonable to impact one school so severely, when we have additional capacities at other campuses,'' board member Steve Sturgeon sturgeon, primitive fish of the northern regions of Europe, Asia, and North America. Unlike evolutionarily advanced fishes, it has a fine-grained hide, with very reduced scalation, a mostly cartilaginous skeleton, upturned tail fins, and a mouth set well back on the  said.

The proposal is the board's effort to balance or cap each school to about 1,500 students.

Though student population estimates for Placerita and Arroyo Seco Arroyo Seco (Spanish: "dry creek") may refer to:

are expected to be close to that next fall, Sierra Vista would have 1,200 students and La Mesa 1,700, which officials consider unbalanced.

Under the proposal, 160 students expected from Pinetree and Sulphur Springs would go to Sierra Vista giving both middle school campuses a better balance and easing the crunch at La Mesa.

Currently, La Mesa Junior High School has 20 portable classrooms on campus.

``It's way over and above its original design,'' Sturgeon said. ``There's a point and time when the infrastructure becomes more and more difficult.''

Though school board members have discussed boundary changes at the past two board meetings, they are holding off on voting until they further discuss the issue with parents.

Board members are hoping to set up a meeting with parents of Pinetree Elementary, who for the past two months have held PTA PTA or parent-teacher association: see parent education.  meetings at the same time as the school board meeting.

Sturgeon has already addressed Sulphur Springs parents.

But parents at Pinetree and Sulphur Springs believe the school district is being unfair.

Parents say they have no problem going to Sierra Vista, but feel that their children are the ones constantly being shuffled around.

``We're taking on more of a principal stand,'' said Pinetree parent Maria Smith. ``We don't object going to Sierra Vista.''

``Our kids are always being shuffled around to appease ap·pease

the west side,'' Smith said. ``Why do our kids always have to pay the price?''

During the school board meeting Wednesday night, Pinetree parent Susan Kodel read a letter signed by several other parents about concerns of having their children shifted.

Eventually board members said they would like to foster a feeder school Feeder school is a name applied to schools, colleges, universities, or other educational institutions that provide a significant number of graduates who intend to continue their studies at specific schools, or even in specific fields.  concept where students move together from elementary through high school.

``We need to see how that impacts student population after future high schools would be built,'' Sturgeon said. ``Our goal is to keep in line with a feeder school concept.''
