Johnny Hay, Canyon, Soph. - Although his season has been hampered by a back injury, Hay is the brightest prospect among a group of starting underclassmen at Canyon. He's batting .460 with two home runs and 16 RBI in 17 games, and he's a fine center fielder with a strong and accurate arm. Thomas Milone, Saugus, Jr. - Milone, who needs one RBI to tie a school record and is also the Foothill League's winningest left-handed pitcher, is among the Southland's top underclassmen. He's batting .408 with four home runs and 33 RBI in 76 at-bats, and he's 6-1 with a 2.13 ERA and 49 strikeouts in 42 2/3 innings. Wes Pascolla, Valencia, Sr. - Pascolla is the league's most dominant catcher offensively and defensively. He's batting .451 with seven home runs and a team-high 29 RBI, and he's allowed just one stolen base this season. Steve Sanchez, Hart, Sr. - Sanchez has made quite a comeback after missing nearly all of last season because of academic problems. He's one of the league's top left-handed pitchers with a 3-2 record, 1.23 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 45 2/3 innings. He's also batting .389 in 36 at-bats. Matt Valaika, Hart, Soph. - Valaika has done a fine job following in the the footsteps of his brother, Chris, one of the Foothill League's greatest shortstops who is now at UC Santa Barbara. The younger Valaika has come on strong lately, batting .443 with six stolen bases and 11 RBI. His six errors are an impressive total for a high school infielder. Cole Valancius, Hart, Sr. - Despite missing three games because of injuries, Valancius is among the league's most productive outfielders. He's batting .421 with six RBI and 11 walks. Danny Worth, Valencia, Sr. - After switching to shortstop midway through last season, Worth has been the team's key defensive player every since. Not just a fine fielder, he's also developed into an exceptional hitter with a .403 average, four home runs and 20 RBI. Committed to Pepperdine. SOFTBALL Kortney Bell, Valencia, Sr. - Bell isn't enjoying the breakout offensive season many anticipated, but she's hitting a steady .274 with two home runs and 10 RBI.
