LANCASTER - After winning titles in both halves and clinching home-field advantage in the divisional playoffs, the JetHawks are playing out the remainder of the regular season for pride alone.

The High Desert Mavericks The High Desert Mavericks are a minor league baseball team in Adelanto, California, USA. Their Major League parent club is the Seattle Mariners. They are a "high-A" class team in the California League, and had been a farm team of the Kansas City Royals since 2005 before the switch. , their last regular-season opponent, was locked in a tight race with Single-A Dayton (Ohio) for the worst record in the minor leagues.

The battle for the bottom - or at least trying to avoid it - turned out to be a motivational factor Sunday in the Mavericks' 8-2 victory over the JetHawks in front of 1,508 at Lancaster Municipal Stadium.

The Mavericks (49-90) got some help from more than halfway across the country.
