BOSTON GLOBE TO HOLD DEBATE ON QUESTION 1
The Boston Globe will hold a debate on Question 1 -- which proposes

an additional tax on cigarettes in the state -- on Thursday, Oct. 22, at the Globe at 2:30 p.m.
Question 1 on the Nov. 3 Mass. ballot proposes an additional 25 cents in taxes per pack of cigarettes sold in the state.
Proponents of the tax say they would hope the money would be used to educate youngsters about the hazards of smoking.
In the Globe debate, the Committee Against Unfair Taxes, which opposes Question 1, will be represented by former state representative Jack Flood.
The Committee for a Healthy Future, which favors Question 1, will be represented by Dr. Blake Cady of the American Cancer Society.
The Globe debate will contain two-minute opening statements from each side, questions from Globe editors and reporters, the debaters questioning each other, and one-minute closing statements from each side.
Reporters and editors from other media are invited to attend. Those coming should arrive no later than 2:20 p.m. and check in at the front desk in the Globe lobby.
