The new Hollywood New Hollywood or post-classical Hollywood refers to the brief time between roughly 1967 (Bonnie and Clyde, The Graduate) and 1982 (One from the Heart  Entertainment Museum will be the backdrop for College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation.  Foundation's Feb. 8 Silver Spur Celebration '97.

The $140-a-ticket banquet will double as a fund-raiser for the college, as well as a stage to thank major donors and to recognize one person in particular for outstanding service to the community.

``The event provides corporations and individuals a unique opportunity to help offset the funding shortages currently being experienced by the college and enjoy a very unique social event at the same time,'' said LaVerne Harris, co-chairwoman of the event.

This year's recipient of the foundation's Silver Spur award The Spur Award is an annual literary prize awarded by the Western Writers of America. Founded in 1953 with only four categories (western novel, historical novel, juvenile and short story), the award today has expanded to include the following categories: Award Categories  will be Robert Ormsby, past president of Lockheed Aircraft Group and a former president of the Valencia college's Education Benefit Corp., a volunteer board formed in 1990 to help the college develop an asset management plan to generate revenue.

Ormsby also has been instrumental in developing the college's new engineering curriculum.

The 200 Silver Spur guests will tour the museum's regular display of Hollywood sets and memorabilia. Drinks will be served in the actual bar set from TV's ``Cheers.'' A full sit-down dinner, music, dancing and a live auction also will be held. Motor-coach transportation from the college is included.

Sponsors for the event include Lockheed Martin Corp., as well as Lockheed Martin ``Skunk skunk, name for several related New World mammals of the weasel family, characterized by their conspicuous black and white markings and use of a strong, highly offensive odor for defense.  Works,'' The Newhall Land and Farming Company The Newhall Land and Farming Company is a land management company based in Valencia, California, United States. The company is responsible for the master community planning of Valencia, as well as the management of farm land elsewhere in the state. , Gruber Systems, Sierracin/Sylmar Corp., Sage Staffing, Six Flags California, Ultraviolet Devices Inc., HR Textron, and Valencia National Bank.

After dinner, guests will view a video chronicle of Ormsby's life, including comments by former President Carter, the guest of honor's roommate at the Georgia Institute of Technology Georgia Institute of Technology, in Atlanta, Ga.; coeducational; state supported; chartered 1885, opened 1888. It is a member school in the university system of Georgia. Significant among its facilities and programs are the Frank H. . Taped comments also will come from former Georgia Sen. Sam Nunn, ex-chief of the Senate Arms Services Committee, which led Senate overseeing of military programs during Ormsby's stint as group president of Lockheed Georgia Co.

Past recipients of the foundation's top honor include entertainer Cliffie Stone, Elisha Agajanian, Scott and Ruth Newhall, Tom Dierckman, former state Sen. Ed Davis, John Hoskinson, and Harris herself.
