BOOMTOWN WINS PRELIMINARY APPROVAL FOR LOUISIANA RIVERBOAT GAMING LICENSE

RENO, Nev., June 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Boomtown Inc. (NASDAQ: BMTN) today announced that it has received preliminary approval from the Louisiana Riverboat Gaming Commission for the award of one of the remaining seven licenses out of a total of 15 being issued by the commission for the operation of riverboat gaming within the state.
Timothy Parrott, chairman and chief executive officer, stated: "We are extremely pleased that the commission has given its preliminary approval for Boomtown's selection. We are enthusiastic about the project and look forward to opening, as scheduled, in the summer of 1994.
"With respect to our planned dockside casino project in Biloxi, Miss., we have just been informed by the Mississippi Gaming Commission that our application will be taken up following the completion of the investigation of the 13 applicants currently under consideration. In its letter, the commission commented favorably on the company's project and location, noting that it had granted formal site approval for the proposed location in April.
"Based on this information, we are confident that Boomtown will receive licensing in Mississippi without delay, and we expect that our project will be open for business, as scheduled, in the spring of 1994."
As previously announced, Boomtown plans to build and operate a riverboat casino from a seven-acre site located on the Harvey Canal, eight miles from New Orleans' French Quarter, as well as a dockside casino adjacent to an 8.9-acre site on the Back Bay of Biloxi.
Boomtown Inc., a public company since October 1992, owns and operates a western-themed casino approximately seven miles west of Reno. The facilities include a 29,000-square-foot casino, a 122-room hotel, a 16-acre truck stop, a 203-space full-service recreational vehicle park and other related amenities. In addition to its planned projects in Mississippi and Louisiana, Boomtown is on schedule with its planned casino/hotel project on a 56-acre site at the southern gateway to Las Vegas and expects to break ground there very soon.
