NED SHERRIN: THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY by Ned Sherrin Little Brown, pounds 18.99

NED Sherrin has been prominent in the world of theatre since the early 1960s, but his role cannot be summed up in a nutshell, because he is not an actor, singer or dancer.

However, as the creator of successful TV, screen and stage entertainment, his wide-ranging output has been amazing.

In recent years he has reached a wide audience as host of the programme Loose Ends, on Radio 4.

His greatest claim to fame lies in his role as a satirist. He devised, produced and directed the legendary That Was The Week That Was That Was The Week That Was, also known as TW3, was a satirical television comedy programme that aired on BBC Television in 1962 and 1963.

Devised, produced and directed by Ned Sherrin, the programme was fronted by David Frost and cast members included
, or TW3 as it became known, television programme in the early 1960s, which he followed up with Not So Much A Programme More A Way Of Life and BBC3.

Sherrin is a farmer's son who grew up in the West Country and made good in the big city. His book is brimful brim·ful
