BOOKMARK CONTEST RUNS UNTIL OCT. 28.

SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  -- The Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County library, with three branches in Santa Clarita, will celebrate Children's Book Week with its 27th annual Bookmark A stored location for quick retrieval at a later date. Web browsers provide bookmarks that contain the addresses (URLs) of favorite sites. Most electronic references, large text databases and help systems provide bookmarks that mark a location users want to revisit in the future.  Contest, starting Tuesday and running through Oct. 28.

Across the nation, libraries are hosting events to highlight the value and delight that children's books bring.

Santa Clarita children are invited to participate in the Bookmark Contest at the Newhall, Canyon Country Jo Anne Darcy and Valencia branch libraries, where entry forms are available. Entries will be accepted in the following categories: Kindergarten-second grade; third-fifth grade; and sixth-eighth grade.

Each library will announce its winner Nov. 17. Library winners will be entered into regional judging and the winners of this competition will be announced in January.

Winning bookmark designs will be printed by Pentel of America Ltd., and will be available at county libraries during National Library Week in April 2007. They will also be published on the Web site www.colapublib.org.
