HarperCollins, 2001 Recommended age group: 8 to adult Have you ever thought that poetry was something that other people understood - something that you certainly never wanted to write or read, ever? This grand little book is about a student who is supposed to read and write poetry regularly for a class. He begins writing responses back to his teacher about how he really doesn't understand or like poetry at all. Those responses constitute "Love that Dog," as his words begin to appear in poetic form. Gradually, the book turns into a work of poetry itself. The boy discovers his poetic voice, and finds that he has lots to say about the poems read and shared in class. We discover along with the writer all the joy of poetry that appears in many formats. Especially wonderful is the collection of poems shared at the end of the book. "Love that Dog" is a quick and exciting read. In fact, I've been using the book in my classes in honor As a verb, to accept a bill of exchange, or to pay a note, check, or accepted bill, at maturity.
