Eugene editor and writing coach Candy Davis Candy Davis (born Clare Damaris Bastin on 2 January 1962) is an English actress and model who is best known for her role as the buxom blonde secretary, Miss Belfridge, on the last two series of the popular British sitcom Are You Being Served?.  will lead a workshop April 28-30 titled ``Getting to the Heart - and Spine - of Your Story'' at the Oregon Writers Colony House in Rockaway Beach.

Davis will help participants find their stories' strengths and weaknesses, see how emotion flows through the narrative and fix problems.

She'll talk about how to decide if a given story would work better as a novel or a screenplay and discuss the business considerations of that decision.

Participants can send her a one-page synopsis for critique and will have a chance for a one-on-one conference during the workshop. Cost is $155. Information: www.oregon writerscolony.org.

American Indian, pioneer descendant to speak

Storyteller Esther Stutzman, a Yoncalla Kalapuya and Coos elder, and Oregon pioneer descendent Shannon Applegate will talk about the historical relationship between the Applegate family and the Yoncalla band.

The event will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Center for Meeting and Learning, Building 19, Room 104, at the Lane Community College main campus, 4000 E. 30th Ave.
