Its design is emblematic of the architecture of the University's older buildings, and it serves as a hub of student activity. The University of Oregon is one of 60 members of the Association of American Universities. Libraries will host a free five-part reading and discussion series beginning Tuesday called "Jewish Literature: Identity and Imagination." The series will explore Jewish literature and culture through discussions led by scholars of contemporary and classic books. A reception and kickoff event is at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Browsing Room of the Knight Library, 1501 Kincaid Street. The event will feature refreshments, music by David Helfand David J. Helfand is chair of the Department of Astronomy at Columbia University as well as the co-director of the Columbia Astrophysics Laboratory. He has also served as part of the university's Physics Department. and an introductory talk by Martha Ravits, a local expert on Jewish literature who is serving as facilitator for the book discussions. Supporting materials for the reading and discussion sessions will be distributed at the reception. The books chosen for reading and the dates of the discussion sessions are: April 18, ``Lost in Translation'' by Eva Hoffman Eva Wydra Hoffman is a writer and academic. She was born as Ewa Wydra July 1, 1945 in Kraków, Poland after her Jewish parents survived the Holocaust by hiding in Ukraine. When she was an adolescent, her family immigrated to Canada in 1959 and her named changed to Eva, and upon . May 2, ``Mr. Sammler's Planet'' by Saul Bellow. May 9, ``The Centaur centaur (sĕn`tôr), in Greek mythology, creature, half man and half horse. The centaurs were fathered by Ixion or by Centaurus, who was Ixion's son. in the Garden'' by Moacyr Scliar. May 23, ``Out of Egypt'' by Andre Aciman. June 6, ``Kaaterskill Falls'' by Allegra Goodman. All discussion sessions begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Browsing Room.
