Byline: The Register-Guard

Author to discuss

journalism, politics

Amy Goodman, host of the ``Democracy NOW!'' news program, is on tour to promote a new book, "Exception to the Rulers: Exposing Oily Politicians, War Profiteers and the Media That Love Them," which she wrote with her brother, journalist and author David Goodman.

``Democracy NOW!'' is broadcast on some National Public Radio and community radio stations, including KWVA 88.1 FM in Eugene, and on many community access television stations.

Amy Goodman will speak about the book and her broadcast journalism career at 8 p.m. Saturday at the University of Oregon: 150 Columbia Hall, 1215 E. 13th Ave.

Admission is $10 for the general public, $6 for students. Overflow seating ($5 and $3) will be in Lillis Hall, the new business building.

Tickets are available through the UO ticket office in Erb Memorial Union, 1222 E. 13th Ave. (345-1633, 521-5062).

Book sale sets record

The Friends of Eugene Public Library book sale, at the Lane Events Center on April 17-18, sold $73,000 in books.

That's a record for the annual fund-raiser, organizers said.
