Library waives fines for items returned this week

National Library Week begins today, and in commemoration the Eugene Public Library will allow patrons who have overdue books to return them without paying any fines.

The ``Bring 'Em Back!'' program will be in effect through Saturday. Fines will be waived and no questions asked on any overdue items returned to any Eugene Public Library location - downtown, Bethel Bethel, in the Bible
Bethel (bĕth`əl) [Heb.,=house of God].

To find if you owe any fines, you can view your account at the library's Web site (www.eugene-or.gov/library) or on a library catalog computer. Or call 682-5450 and press 1 for ``Cards and Accounts.''

Poets to read Tuesday

at downtown library

In honor of National Poetry Month and National Library Week, the Eugene Public Library will host a reading by poets Lawson Fusao Inada Lawsno Fusao Inada (born in 1938 in Fresno, California) is an American poet and is currently the poet laureate of the U.S. state of Oregon. Early life

Inada, the Oregon Poet Laureate poet laureate (lô`rēĭt), title conferred in Britain by the monarch on a poet whose duty it is to write commemorative odes and verse. , is a third-generation Japanese-American from Fresno, Calif. His books of poetry include "Before the War, Legends from Camp" and "Drawing the Line."

Petersen's books of poetry include "The Wild Awake," "Blood Silk" and, most recently, "A Bride of Narrow Escape."

The Windfall Reading Series is sponsored by Eugene Public Library, Lane Literary Guild, Friends of the Library, the Eugene Public Library Foundation and the Cultural Services Division of Lane Arts Council An arts council is a government or private, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the arts mainly by funding local artists, awarding prizes, and organizing events at home and abroad. .
