Valencia (välān`thēä), autonomous region (1990 pop. 3,902,429) and former kingdom, E Spain, on the Mediterranean. It now comprises the provinces of Alicante, Castellón, and Valencia.
-- College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation.  officials didn't take long to start work on improving the campus after voters this week approved a $160 million bond measure.

The day after Tuesday's victory, the college board voted to hire an architect for a building project at the Canyon Country campus now under construction.

By late spring or early summer, College of the Canyons expects to start building a permanent facility for its Valencia campus University Center, which hosts numerous four-year programs.

``With this new money we're going to be able to serve a lot more students,'' said college spokeswoman Sue Bozman.

The University Center is now in a modular building Modular buildings are sectional prefabricated buildings that are manufactured in a plant, and delivered to the customer in one or more complete modular sections. At the same time that project is under way, classrooms and labs at its Valencia campus that date from the 1970s will be renovated.

The college also is depending on up to $80 million within the next eight years from a statewide bond, Proposition 1D, also approved Tuesday. ``It just depends on what our priorities are and what their priorities are,'' said Eric Harnish, the college's special assistant to the president/superintendent.

of the library that college officials plan to build, Bozman said. The tutorial center would be turned into new classrooms. The 70-acre Canyon Country campus will open next year in temporary buildings and Measure M money will help fund permanent facilities.

Wednesday's vote by the college board means that the school will go ahead and hire an architect to design the first building at the Canyon Country site.

``So that's very exciting. I mean, we're not waiting,'' Bozman said. Other projects that Measure M will fund include making the college more earthquake-safe and fire-resistant, improving disabled access and repairing plumbing plumbing, piping systems inside buildings for water supply and sewage. The Romans had a highly developed plumbing system; water was brought to Rome by aqueducts and distributed to homes in lead pipes—hence the name plumbing from the Latin word plumbum  and roofs. Measure M was approved by more than 62 percent of voters.
