 - The deadline to apply for appointments to the committee that will oversee expenditure of the $82.1 million bond approved by voters to expand College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation.  is this week.

Oversight may refer to:
  • Government regulation — The role of an official authority in regulating a separate authority.
 Committee must be residents of the area served by the Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  Community College District. Their main responsibility will be to ensure the money is spent as approved by voters.

Measure C was overwhelmingly approved on the Nov. 6 ballot to build facilities including a science laboratory, a physical education center, a job training center and a 37,000-square-foot library addition. The bond revenue also will finance a university center where students can take courses, as well as a satellite center in Canyon Country.

Applications are due by 4 p.m. Tuesday Tuesday: see week.  at the Valencia college and committee appointments will be confirmed by the college board by Feb. 3.

The committee, required by law to monitor bond spending, will have at least seven members, and one each must represent the business community, a senior citizens group, a taxpayers organization, a college support organization and the student body.

Members will serve no more than two, two-year terms and will meet at least twice a year. Meetings will be open to the public.
