By that time, westbound traffic was backed up as far as Studio City and eastbound to at least Las Virgenes Road, Ramirez said.

The backup also affected transition traffic on the San Diego and the Hollywood freeways, Ramirez said.

During the closure, commuters were diverted off the freeway at De Soto Avenue and Topanga Canyon Boulevard, forcing the traffic headaches to spill onto city streets.
